White Birch, Betula papyrifera, also known as Paper Birch, is a culturally and ecologically important species traditionally used by the Algonquin people. Its bark has been used to make birch bark canoes, baskets, and other practical items, and it has also been used medicinally to treat stomach ailments. White Birch contains anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties.
White Birch can grow to heights of 24–30 metres and is adaptable to a wide range of moisture conditions and soil textures. It grows best when planted in full sunlight, with approximately a 10 ft × 10 ft spacing to allow for proper development.
