Acer saccharinum, commonly known as silver maple, is native to southeastern Canada. It is a large tree than can grow to 35 m in height with a trunk that is 100 cm in diameter. It prefers moist soil and is regarded as easy to plant and grow.
Silver maples are a fast growing tree that prefer open sunlight but can still thrive in partial shade. In rural settings they may live over 130 years.
The beautiful silver lower surface of the leaves makes the silver maple the perfect choice for enhancing any property. They are known as a reliable shade tree. During the fall the leaves can turn yellow or any shade of red from orange to red-purple.
