Saskatoon Serviceberry -
2 year seedling / 12-18" (30-45cm)
Saskatoon Serviceberry, (Amelanchier alnifolia), is a hardy small tree or large shrub valued for its edible fruit, ornamental beauty, and ecological importance. Typically growing 4–8 m tall, it thrives in well-drained soils and performs best in full sun to partial shade.
In early spring, Saskatoon Serviceberry produces clusters of white flowers that attract pollinators. These are followed by sweet, purple-blue berries in early summer that are enjoyed by birds and wildlife and are excellent for fresh eating, baking, and preserves. In fall, the foliage turns vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red.
Saskatoon Serviceberry is well suited to naturalized plantings, shelterbelts, hedgerows, and edible landscapes, offering year-round interest while supporting pollinators and wildlife. For additional information on Allegheny Serviceberry, including planting tips visit: https://www.ontario.ca/page/serviceberries
