Product Details

Each Butterfly Garden Kit is thoughtfully designed to support butterflies through all stages of their life cycle. The selected species are all native to Ontario and were chosen for their staggered bloom times, varied heights, and proven value to butterflies and other pollinators. Swamp Milkweed serves as a host plant for Monarch butterflies, providing a place for egg laying and food for caterpillars. The remaining native flowers supply essential nectar from late spring through fall, supporting adult butterflies during feeding, mating, and reproduction.

These plants work together to create a dynamic, season-long habitat while forming a visually balanced garden with early, mid, and late-season flowers.

Each kit includes:
• 5 native species
• 4 plants of each species (20 plants total)

Price:
$60 per kit

Species:

Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata), is a critical host plant for Monarch butterflies, providing food for caterpillars and nectar for adults. Its fragrant pink flowers attract a wide range of butterflies and native bees. It is the primary host plant for Monarch butterflies, supporting egg laying and caterpillar development. It thrives in moist soils and is ideal for rain gardens and low areas. Height: 90-150 cm, Bloom time: Mid to late summer

Prairie Smoke (Geum triflorum), Prairie Smoke provides early-season nectar for emerging butterflies and pollinators. Its nodding pink flowers are followed by distinctive feathery seed heads, adding texture and interest. Its shorter height makes it ideal for the front of butterfly garden plantings Height: 30-45 cm, Bloom time: Late spring to early summer

Black- eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta), Black-eyed Susan is a long-blooming nectar source that supports many butterfly species, including sulphurs and skippers. Its bright yellow flowers provide reliable mid-season food, helping bridge gaps between early and late bloomers. Height: 60-90 cm, Bloom time: Mid-summer to early fall

Foxglove Beardtongue (Penstemon digitalis), Foxglove Beardtongue offers early nectar for butterflies and native bees at a time when floral resources can be limited. Its tubular white flowers are particularly attractive to long-tongued pollinators, and its upright growth adds structure to the garden. Height: 60-120 cm, Bloom time: Later spring to early summer

Pale Purple Coneflower (Echinacea pallida), Pale Purple Coneflower is a valuable nectar plant for butterflies, including swallowtails and fritillaries. Its long-lasting blooms support pollinators through early summer, while its seed heads later provide food for birds. Height: 90–120 cm, Bloom time: Early to mid-summer
